Okyeame Kwame, born Kwame Nsiah-Apau, has revealed the inspiration behind his new single, “Clap,” as he prepares to release his upcoming album, Gentle Rebel.
On Friday, May 15, 2026, Okyeame Kwame appeared on Oyerepa Afutuo, hosted by Auntie Naa, to discuss his upcoming album and new single, “Clap.” During the interview, the celebrated artist stated that there is too much jealousy, bitterness, and envy in society, which undermines the nation’s development. He therefore encouraged people to appreciate others and celebrate their successes instead of sabotaging them or becoming jealous of their achievements.
He said, “There is too much envy in society. I composed the song to reduce jealousy and envy because they undermine development. I do not want to compose songs that communicate negative or divisive ideas.”
He also dismissed claims that the song was made solely for children. Addressing the issue, Okyeame Kwame explained that the song’s message is actually intended for adults. However, he incorporated child-like activities such as clapping and cheering for success so that children would also enjoy the song and grow up to become responsible members of society.
“So, I decided to compose a song about appreciation and include child-like ideas for children to enjoy as well. The message of the song is for adults, but children will love it too,” he added.
Okyeame Kwame’s single, “Clap,” is a purpose-driven song that encourages listeners to use their talents wisely and appreciate the success of others instead of pulling them down or sabotaging their achievements.
