Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene has revealed that he initially did not want fellow artiste KiDi to feature on his 2019 hit song “Ohemaa.”

Speaking in an interview with Headless YouTuber, the “Rockstar” hitmaker disclosed that his record label insisted on adding KiDi to the song despite his reservations.

According to Kuami Eugene, he even warned the label that he would publicly state during interviews that he had not wanted KiDi on the track.

He recounted that the label jokingly encouraged him to say it if he wished, and when he later appeared for an interview, he made the revelation immediately, prompting swift damage control from the label.

“Sometime ago, we were at the studio having a conversation and then they said I need to put KiDi on Ohemaa, and I said I won’t do it. I don’t want to have KiDi on Ohemaa, and the label says it’s needed, I have to do it. So I had to do it,” he said.

“I remember telling them that if I go for an interview, I will go and say I didn’t want to put KiDi on Ohemaa. They jokingly said I should go and say it, and when I went, that was the first thing I said. And they were like ‘eii’, so we had to do damage control quickly and post KiDi and me together to cover it quickly,” he added.

Kuami Eugene explained that his reluctance stemmed from his belief that the song was already complete and did not need any additions.

“I didn’t want to put KiDi on Ohemaa because I did the entire verse and it was a complete, beautiful song. I didn’t want any touch on it,” he stated.

The “Monica” crooner also shared that he generally finds it difficult to collaborate with other artistes and prefers working on songs alone.

According to him, aside from MzVee and Gyakie, he has rarely featured other musicians throughout his career.

“I actually find it very difficult to feature. If you check, Gyakie is the first female artiste I have featured, beside MzVee, and it’s been almost ten years. I don’t like features,” he said.

He added that most of his songs are created independently, often during late-night or early-morning recording sessions using his laptop and headphones.
