Highlife artiste Kwaisey Pee has revealed that he no longer maintains friendships within the Ghanaian music industry, stating that he currently has no close colleagues he can personally relate to.
Speaking in an interview with Eddie Ray on Rainbow Radio’s mid-morning show, the veteran musician said his past experiences have influenced his decision to distance himself from industry peers.
When asked whether there was any musician he could casually call for a personal conversation, Kwaisey Pee responded bluntly, “I don’t have that. I don’t have one.”
He explained that although he once had friendships within the music fraternity, he has chosen to step back to avoid emotional disappointments.
“I used to have friends in the industry but for now I no longer do,” he said.
Beyond personal relationships, the highlife artiste also expressed dissatisfaction with how he believes he has been treated within the industry despite a career spanning more than two decades.
According to him, his consistency in producing enduring music has not been matched with adequate recognition or appreciation.
He suggested that his outspoken personality and high standards have sometimes been misinterpreted as arrogance, adding that such perceptions have, at times, worked against his career progression.
Kwaisey Pee also noted that his strict professional demands often make him difficult to work with, even admitting that he sometimes finds his own standards challenging.
He further criticised what he described as an industry culture that rewards insincerity and excessive flattery over talent and authenticity.
Despite these frustrations, he maintained that he continues to fund and manage most of his music production independently, demonstrating resilience in his career path.
