Popular Ghanaian musician Mzbel has criticised reports surrounding the alleged sale of church land belonging to the founder of Glorious Wave Church International, Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi, following his relocation.
The controversy began after social media claims suggested that Prophet Badu Kobi was selling his church property at Sakumono Estate to settle significant financial obligations. The reports further fuelled debate after claims emerged that fetish priest Kweku Bonsam had shown interest in acquiring the land and turning it into a shrine.
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on May 23, 2026, Mzbel described the situation as deeply troubling, saying it was inappropriate for a religious property to be sold under such circumstances.
She said while she had no objection to the relocation of the church if it was spiritually directed, she questioned the decision to dispose of the land where the church had previously stood.
“It is disappointing to hear that Prophet Badu Kobi chose to sell his church; that is an embarrassment to God,” she said. “If God instructed you to relocate your church, you should move and leave the land, not sell it.”
Mzbel also expressed concern over reports that the property could be sold to individuals outside the Christian faith, including traditional spiritual practitioners.
“There is no problem with shutting down the church. But the land on which the church is located is a sacred place, and you are selling it?” she asked.
Addressing suggestions that financial difficulties may have influenced the decision, she argued that divine intervention should have been sought instead of selling the property.
“Even if he is in debt and needs help, God will provide a way out. But if there is no instruction from God to sell the land, then I am very disappointed,” she said.
