Ghanaian highlife musician Kwaisey Pee has expressed concern about what he describes as the evolving and “transactional” nature of modern Christianity, stating that he has deliberately reduced his active involvement in church activities due to personal observations.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio, the singer said he remains a committed Christian but believes contemporary Christian practice has deviated from its original message.

He questioned whether the Jesus Christ being preached today aligns with the teachings he understands from the Christian faith, suggesting that religious practice has become increasingly commercialised.

Kwaisey Pee also noted that individuals who openly challenge authority within religious spaces are often unfairly branded as arrogant, discouraging honest questioning and accountability.

He referenced a viral video in which a Christian woman criticised church leadership over the use of tithes, arguing that public reactions to her comments reflected deep-rooted conditioning among believers.

According to him, many Ghanaians are reluctant to question religious authority figures, even when concerns are raised about accountability and the use of church funds.

The musician maintained that tithes, in his view, should not be used solely for church administration but should also support widows, orphans, and the less privileged in society.

He argued that this principle is supported by biblical teachings, insisting that the distribution of church funds should reflect broader social responsibility.

Addressing his personal faith, Kwaisey Pee clarified that he still identifies as a devoted Christian but has become more reserved in his religious engagement.

“I am a devoted Christian. I am a Christian by all standards but I have relaxed these days because it has gotten to a point that… Jesus Christ is the product we are somehow selling but some people are benefiting much more than others,” he said.

He added that in his view, only a portion of professing Christians remain fully committed to the faith, while others do not consistently uphold its principles.
