Veteran Kumawood actor Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo, has encouraged young Ghanaians to consider farming as a viable means of livelihood rather than spending years unemployed in major cities.
In a video shared on X on May 29, 2026, the actor highlighted agriculture as a profitable venture capable of creating sustainable income for the youth.
According to him, many young people would benefit more from returning to their hometowns and investing their energy in farming activities instead of remaining idle in urban areas.
Agya Koo made the remarks while recounting an experience during a journey in which he was surprised by the price of roasted corn.
“I am almost at Konongo, and I felt like eating some corn, so we stopped to buy a few. They charged us GH¢5 for one,” he said.
Using the incident to emphasize the value of agriculture, the actor urged young men and women living in cities such as Kumasi and Accra to take advantage of available land in their communities.
“To all the young people in Kumasi and Accra, I encourage you to go back to your villages and ask your parents, grandparents, or relatives for a piece of land. You can cultivate maize, cassava, ginger, or other crops,” he advised.
Agya Koo also discouraged the growing desire among some young people to travel abroad in search of better opportunities, arguing that meaningful success can also be achieved through hard work at home.
“To those planning to travel to places like Libya, Qatar, and other countries, I would advise you to consider farming instead. There is no need to rush through life,” he stated.
He further stressed that if travelling overseas is unlikely to improve one’s situation, returning home to pursue agriculture could be a more rewarding and sustainable option.
The actor's comments have since sparked discussions on the role of agriculture in addressing youth unemployment and creating economic opportunities across the country.
