Ghanaian Afrobeats singer Sista Afia has reacted to her absence from the nomination list of the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) 2026, describing the experience as disappointing but motivating her to stay focused on her craft.
Speaking in an interview, the “Asuoden” hitmaker said she had high expectations for her song “Asuoden,” which she believes performed strongly after its release and enjoyed significant airplay across the country.
She noted that despite submitting multiple entries across several categories, none of her songs were recognised by the awards board, a situation she said left her questioning her creative output and industry recognition.
According to her, the song gained massive airplay shortly after its release, making its omission from the awards even more surprising.
“The reason I said that was because of ‘Asuoden.’ Till now, it still pains me. That’s where I felt there was some sabotage going on against me. I was previously nominated for ‘Weather,’ so I expected ‘Asuoden’ to also be recognised because it was even bigger. Within two weeks of its release, it was everywhere on the airwaves, but when nominations came out, it was missing,” she said.
Sista Afia added that she submitted entries in more than eight categories but none of her works received nominations.
“I submitted a lot of songs under many categories — more than eight categories. It hurts me so much,” she said.
She further noted that the experience made her question herself and her work, as she struggled to understand why she was overlooked.
“I kept asking myself, ‘What did I do wrong? Am I supposed to do something differently?’” she said.
However, the singer maintained that the setback would not push her to compromise her principles in exchange for recognition or awards.
“I’m not the type of person who will come and kiss anybody’s ass. I’m never going to do that. I’m simply doing what God has given me,” she added.
