Ghanaian actor and comedian Dr Likee has addressed the backlash over his outfit at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) red carpet, explaining that his appearance was a calculated move to promote his upcoming comedy show at the O2 Indigo.

In a video shared on social media on May 21, 2026, Dr Likee said he was fully aware his outfit would spark public discussion, but he was not affected by the criticism.

“I knew Ghanaians would definitely talk, but I wore that outfit to promote my upcoming show,” he said.

He further explained that apart from the publicity strategy, he is naturally comfortable wearing shorts and often prefers them in his daily life.

“Not just the promotion alone, but I wear shorts a lot. I’m much more comfortable wearing shorts,” he added.

Dr Likee also urged his fans to avoid insulting or attacking individuals who criticised his look, stressing that controversy and debate are part of the entertainment industry.

“No one should insult anybody for criticizing me. I’m begging my loyal fans not to go after anyone or fight with anyone,” he appealed.

He noted that such conversations often help boost visibility for entertainers, saying he welcomed the attention as part of show business.

“We all understand that it’s a game and that’s how it’s played. If they didn’t talk about me for me to trend, my comedy show at O2 wouldn’t get any attention,” he said.

According to him, public criticism should not discourage entertainers, adding that attention—whether positive or negative—often contributes to success in the industry.
