Ghanaian fashion icon Nana Akua Addo has opened up about what she describes as years of alleged abuse in her marriage, following the circulation of videos showing her in a heated confrontation involving her husband and members of his family.
During a TikTok live session on October 6, 2026, Nana Akua Addo recounted some of the challenges she claims to have endured at home, including alleged physical abuse, restrictions on her movements and interference with her professional opportunities.
The fashion icon explained that her prolonged absence from public events, particularly red-carpet occasions in Ghana, was linked to the situation in her marriage.
According to her, her husband imposed a curfew on her and allegedly subjected her to physical abuse whenever she returned home after 10 p.m.
“Some of you kept asking why you don’t see me at red-carpet events. The thing is that I am on a curfew, and anytime I go out and come back after 10 PM, I am always beaten,” she said.
Nana Akua Addo added that she had endured the alleged abuse for years while trying to raise enough money to enable her to leave the situation.
“I can’t fight these battles, and I have been doing all these things all these years just because I want to get the money and come out of it,” she stated.
She further alleged that her husband had repeatedly obstructed her efforts to secure ambassadorial contracts and other professional opportunities.
“He used to prevent me from getting any deals that came my way,” she claimed.
Nana Akua Addo explained that she eventually left the matrimonial home for about a month after an alleged confrontation involving her husband’s family. She said her time away allowed her to travel to Milan and Nigeria for professional engagements.
The fashion icon also recounted a painful experience during a previous pregnancy, alleging that she struggled to obtain financial support for medical care and subsequently developed eclampsia at seven months of pregnancy.
According to her account, the situation became critical, leaving medical personnel with the difficult decision of prioritising either her life or that of her unborn child.
“When I was pregnant, he refused to give me money so I could go to the hospital. So I got eclampsia at the seventh month. And it was either they save the baby or me,” she alleged.
She further claimed that during a hospital visit, she requested GH¢200 from her husband but was told that the money would be sent through mobile money.
Nana Akua Addo said she explained that she could not operate her phone because intravenous drips had been attached to her veins. She alleged that her husband subsequently contacted his mother, who came to the hospital and engaged her in a confrontation.
“He called his mother to the hospital, and she came to fight me, insulted me, and even said some harsh words to me. Three days after the incident, I lost my baby,” she recounted.
Her revelations come amid growing public attention following the circulation of videos purportedly showing a confrontation involving the fashion icon, her husband and members of his family.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and the account presented does not include a response from her husband or his family.
