Ghanaian actress and fashion icon Nana Akua Addo has defended the increasing spotlight placed on fashion during the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, stressing that celebrity style should not be judged solely based on appearances at the annual awards ceremony.
According to her, although the TGMA red carpet remains one of the biggest platforms for fashion display in Ghana’s entertainment industry, creativity and influence in fashion extend far beyond a single event.
Her remarks follow widespread public debate surrounding celebrity fashion choices and red carpet appearances during this year’s awards season.
Nana Akua Addo recently attracted international attention at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards after appearing in a cathedral-inspired gown that generated massive reactions across social media and entertainment circles.
The elaborate outfit earned praise from fans and fashion enthusiasts for its bold artistic presentation, but it also sparked controversy after Paris-based fashion house ALmée Couture accused her of using elements of a concept they had allegedly created for her.
Addressing the claims, Nana Akua Addo explained that the original inspiration and creative direction for the design came from her. She noted that she eventually collaborated with a different designer after the initial partnership failed to progress as expected.
Despite the controversy, her AMVCA fashion appearances have continued to dominate conversations across Africa, with many admirers applauding her daring and theatrical approach to red carpet fashion.
