A Ghanaian man identified as Daniel has become the subject of intense public criticism after revealing that he spent GH¢350,000 on a woman he met on Facebook, including proceeds from the sale of his wife’s land.
Daniel made the disclosure during an appearance on Oyerepa Afutuo, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, where he appealed for help in tracing the woman, whom he claimed had cut off communication after receiving the money.
According to him, the relationship started through social media conversations and later developed into a romantic affair online, even after he informed the woman that he was married with children.
Daniel explained that the woman eventually contacted him for financial support, claiming her grandmother was battling a serious illness. Although he initially hesitated, he said he later agreed to assist after speaking with a man introduced to him as the woman’s uncle.
The man reportedly claimed he worked as a sailor abroad and assured Daniel that any money given to the woman would be refunded once he returned to Ghana.
Speaking on the programme, Daniel admitted that he sold a parcel of land belonging to his wife, Mary Amoako, in order to raise part of the money. He added that he continued transferring more funds to the woman over a short period, with the total amount reaching GH¢350,000 in less than a month.
“I trusted her because of the conversations we had and what the uncle told me. I believed the money would be paid back,” he stated.
Daniel further disclosed that despite the large sums of money he sent, he had never met the woman physically. He said the relationship existed only online and all attempts to contact her and retrieve the money have failed.
He also clarified that although his wife is involved in the second-hand clothing business, he did not contribute financially to establishing her trade.
During the live broadcast, Daniel’s wife, Mary Amoako, was contacted and emotionally reacted to the revelations. She expressed deep disappointment over her husband’s actions, particularly his decision to sell her property without her knowledge to support another woman.
Mary stated that the family is currently experiencing financial difficulties and noted that she had recently delivered a baby.
In an effort to settle the matter, Daniel offered his wife GH¢5,000 as compensation, but the gesture was dismissed by Auntie Naa and members of her team, who argued that the amount did not reflect the value of the land or the damage caused to the family.
The story has since gone viral on social media, attracting widespread condemnation from members of the public, many of whom accused Daniel of betraying his family’s trust and acting irresponsibly.
